The Georgetown Hospital Foundation (GHF) is honoured to announce a pledge of $500,000 from an anonymous local family to support the Campaign for Georgetown Hospital.
“This is the time of year the Foundation receives most of its annual support, not just because it is the end of the tax year but because people truly take to heart that it is the season of giving,” explained the Foundation’s Executive Director, K.C. Carruthers. “Our deepest gratitude goes out to the local family who made this anonymous gift. Their support will have a tremendous impact on our Investing in Care – Close to Home campaign and will help us achieve our goal of building a new Emergency Department (ED) and a renewed Diagnostic Imaging Centre that will include the acquisition of a CT Scanner – the first one to be available in Halton Hills.”
When asked about the significance of the gift, Foundation Chair, Laurent Thibault mentioned there are many opportunities to publicly recognize those who donate to the Hospital including the naming of rooms and other areas in the new ED. “The Foundation always takes requests of anonymity quite seriously and respects the privacy of its donors,” stated Mr. Thibault. “As a matter of fact, neither I nor any of my colleagues on the Foundation Board even know the identity of this family, unless they happen to have shared this news with them privately.”
The Campaign for Georgetown Hospital is GHF’s biggest‐ever fundraising drive. The Campaign will assist in funding the construction of a new 14,000 square foot ED – doubling the size of the existing cramped one. Featured in the expansion will be the acquisition of Georgetown Hospital’s first CT Scanner, eliminating the need for patients to travel to other area hospitals. In addition, the Diagnostic Imaging Department will be transformed into a larger space ‐ consolidating services that are currently located outside the Department and improving the quality of care that the Hospital provides to its patients.
To date, the Foundation has been fortunate enough to announce $2.1 million in pledged charitable donations to this project. The total cost is anticipated to be $12.2 million. Support from the Town of Halton Hills of $2.6 million has been announced along with up to $2.6 million from the Ministry of Health and Long‐term Care. In addition, the Georgetown Hospital Volunteer Association has pledged $250,000 and Halton Healthcare Services is contributing $2.5 million from various revenue generating sources.
