On October 11, 2008, the Halton Region Museum will host a Battle of the Bands. Local bands will compete for the title of best band and vie for prizes such as a recording time at a studio and a professional photo shoot.
Sponsored by the Halton Region Museum Foundation, the Battle-of-the-Bands outdoor concert will take place on the grass in front of the Alexander Barn at Halton Region Museum from 1 to 6 p.m. The Museum is located in Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. Tickets are available at the park gate for $10 on a first come, first served basis. For advance tickets, call 905-875-2200 ext. 31.
“With this musical event, the Museum is reaching out to a new audience,” said Halton Regional Chair, Gary Carr. “This is all part of the Museum’s efforts to connect with diverse populations and changing audiences, exploring multiple perspectives and new media to facilitate memorable experiences.”
Bands, fans and history will come together in what promises to be a spectacular fall event. Local bands such as District, Art of Action, Trip City, The Bad Names, Green Party, The Way-Out’s and Black Shoe Collective, will take the stage, show off their skills and hopefully, win some new fans. The concert will include an eclectic mix of genres including ska, rock, punk and alternative. There will be a special guest performance by the pop-infused ska punk band, the Johnstones.
Cash prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place bands. In addition, Decibel Labs has donated three prizes:
Winners will be determined by a panel of judges including Umar Syed – owner of Decibel Labs Recording Studio; Brandon Vydelingum – Jaded Rebel Entertainment; Matt Buck – Bass player, The Randalls; and Sean Devenish from Livebeat. Sound and lighting for the concert will be provided by Livebeat Productions.
“We are always looking for innovative ways to raise funds for capital projects at the Halton Region Museum,” said Steven Baker, Chair, Halton Museum Foundation. “This event complements our other fundraising efforts, such as our Historic Christmas Feast, which now runs annually.”
The Museum held its first successful outdoor concert featuring Disney musician Bret Ryan in July.
