On May 19th, shortly before 11:30 pm a lone male suspect entered the Acton Discount Variety situated at 52 Mill Street and demanded money. The suspect, who had his face covered, indicated to the lone male employee that he had a gun.

The variety store employee was not shaken by the event and calmly asked the would-be robber if he had seen the police outside. This information was enough to send the robber running out of the store empty handed. There were no injuries during the incident.

On July 17th, investigators from the One District Criminal Investigation Bureau arrested and charged Benjamin James Gallant (19 years) of Fifth Line Halton Hills with Robbery and Wearing a Disguise. Gallant was released to appear in Milton Court on August 17, 2009.
