Arson charges laid against two Georgetown men

The Halton Regional Police Arson Unit have laid several charges against two Georgetown men after a fire led to the discovery of a marihuana grow.

On April 13, 2011, the Halton Hills Fire Department responded to a house fire on Rexway Drive, Georgetown.

A subsequent investigation was undertaken by the Ontario Fire Marshall’s office who determined that the origin of the fire occurred within a basement rental unit. During their investigation, a small marihuana grow was discovered.

The Halton Regional Police Service was contacted and a joint investigation was initiated by members of the Arson Unit and Regional Drug Unit.

On April 16, 2011, search warrants were executed at the residence and approximately three pounds of marihuana was seized.

CHARGED
31 year old Male of Georgetown
35 year old Male of Georgetown

Both men are facing charges of Arson by Negligence, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Production of a Controlled Substance.

They will appear in Milton Court on June 6, 2011.
