Bruce Jones elected as Chair; Donna Danielli elected as Vice-Chair

At the Annual Organizational Meeting of the Halton District School Board, held on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, trustees nominated trustees for the elected positions of Chair and Vice-Chair for the upcoming year.

Bruce Jones, trustee for Wards 5 and 6 in Oakville, was nominated by Don Vrooman for the position of Chair. The nomination was seconded by Philippa Ellis. No further nominations were put forward for the position of Chair, which acclaimed Bruce Jones to the role for 2009.

The position of Vice-Chair also received one nomination. Donna Danielli was nominated by out-going Chair Gillian Tuck Kutarna. Philippa Ellis also seconded this nomination. Donna Danielli was acclaimed into the role of Vice Chair.

Both positions – Chair and Vice-Chair – are one-year terms, with trustees annually electing their leaders at the December organizational meeting.

In his inaugural comments, Bruce Jones highlighted the efforts of both Gillian Tuck Kutarna and Janie Hames, who had both held the positions of Chair and Vice-Chair respectively for the past two years. He spoke to future efforts of the Board being predicated on continued collaboration and cooperation, for the benefit of students in Halton.

Regular schedule of Board meetings will resume in January.
