Historic Christmas Feast

On Saturday, November 29, 2008, from 6 to 11:00 pm, the Halton Region Museum will once again present its Historic Christmas Feast at the museum site inside Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. Catered by Silver Thyme Events and Catering, the menu offers a selection of traditional nineteenth century dishes designed to evoke a time when ‘eating local’ meant enjoying the harvest from your own backyard.

“The Historic Christmas Feast is a unique way to start celebrating the season with friends, family or colleagues,” said Gary Carr, Halton Regional Chair. “The Museum’s picturesque location, the authentic menu, the historic surroundings, and the entertainment combine to make for a very special evening to remember.”

The Feast is a tribute to the Alexander family—one of Halton’s founding families who farmed the site from 1836 to 1961 where the Halton Region Museum is now located. The refurbished Alexander Barn, where the feast takes place, was one of the first electrically powered farms in southern Ontario and presently holds a vast collection of artifacts and exhibits for the whole family to appreciate.

The evening starts off with a complimentary Scotch tasting by the fireplace in the Loft Room. Guests can also sample the traditional punch drinks Syllabub or Wassail. Soup and smoked duck with blueberries Marsala glaze will be followed by roast beef with gravy and horseradish and whole rainbow trout with lemon and fresh vegetables. Plum pudding flambé and mousse complete the dinner – all served “family style” at your table in the Hearth Room. Guests will be entertained throughout the meal with a traditional Saturday night Ceilidh of Scottish tunes from past and present, provided by the Oakville Celtic Fiddle Club.

The Christmas Feast is a Halton Museum Foundation fundraiser offering corporate and personal tables as well as a licensed cash bar. Tickets are being sold through advance sale only, for $115 per person, all inclusive. Tax receipts will be issued.
