Charges Laid in Georgetown Pedestrian Fatality

On Friday February 11th at 9:10 a.m. Halton Regional Police were called to the intersection of Mountainview Road and Todd Road in the Town of Halton Hills with respect to a serious collision.

This collision involved a pedestrian and a 2011 GM Sierra pick-up truck. The pedestrian, a 48 year old Georgetown woman, was crossing Mountainview Road on her way to work at a nearby Todd Road business.

The southbound pick up truck struck the female near the centre of the roadway. She suffered severe injuries and was transported to Georgetown Hospital with no vital signs. She was pronounced dead at hospital. The driver of the pick-up truck, a 51 year old Etobicoke man was not injured.

Mountainview Road was closed in both directions for five hours, while the Collision Reconstruction Unit completed their at-scene investigation.

Following the completion of an investigation into the death of the 48 year old Georgetown woman, charges have been laid against the driver of the pick-up truck involved.

A 51 year old Mississauga man, was charged with Careless Driving contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act. Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit have served the man with a summons to appear in Milton Provincial Offences Court on May 2nd, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.

Careless Driving is one of the most serious offences under the Act and a conviction can carry a maximum penalty of any or all of the following: a fine of $2000, six months in jail, a two year licence suspension and the application of six demerit points and a two year suspension of the permit for the motor vehicle.
