The British Saloon Car Club of Canada will hold its annual picnic and get together on Sunday, August 24th, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on the scenic Halton Region Museum grounds in Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. This year, the club celebrates its fourteenth year as an association for British cars, trucks and motorcycles, regardless of make or marque.

“This is one more example of how the Halton Region Museum engages people in meaningful and memorable experiences,” said Gary Carr, Halton Regional Chair. “This annual event provides an opportunity for family members to get together, enjoy a picnic lunch in beautiful surroundings and take in a truly unique exhibit – British saloon cars.”

Saloon is a British English term for sedan. According to Tony Fox, the Club’s Events Coordinator, the Club has a rich diversity of vehicles, including Wolseley, Riley, Hillman, Rover, and Morris models. “These are cars which ordinarily don’t have marque clubs and are not often seen in North America,” explained Fox.

“Anyone who enjoys classic British cars will be in for a treat this year,” added Fox. “The display will have such models as Jaguar, Austin, Ford, Vauxhall as well as MG and Triumph models such as the TR6 and Stag. Many popular cars of their day will be represented. The club has around 120 of these iconic cars.”

Inaugurated in November 1994 in Toronto, the British Saloon Car Club currently has about 490 members in North America. The club is made up of different chapters around Canada. Members come mostly from around Ontario but some U.S. members also visit.

Entry to the car display is included with admission to Kelso Conservation Area, conveniently located minutes from Highway 401 at Milton. Tours of the Halton Region Museum are available to the public at no additional charge. The park also offers opportunities to fish, boat and swim in Kelso Lake, as well as hike and bike on the park’s Niagara Escarpment trails.
