The Halton Hills Fire Protection and Prevention Services would like to advise residents that Kidde Canada Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of one of its dual sensor Smoke Alarms. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately.
These dual sensor Smoke Alarms were manufactured in China for Kidde. Ten thousand of these units were distributed in Canada between March 2009 and May 2009. They were sold by retail, department and hardware stores as well as electrical distributors throughout Canada. An electrostatic discharge can damage the unit causing it not to warn consumers of a fire. The Company has received two reported incidents of unit malfunctions involving electro static discharge during installation. No injuries have been reported.
The recall involves Kidde dual sensor smoke alarms model P12000CA. The alarms can be identified by two buttons, ”HUSH” and “PUSH AND HOLD TO TEST WEEKLY” which are located on the front/center of the alarm. The model number and date code are on the back of the smoke alarm. Only the date codes 2009 Jan. 01 through 2009 May 04 are included in this recall. The recalled units are manufactured to Canadian Standards.
If you have purchased one of these recalled units, you should contact Kidde immediately to receive a free replacement smoke alarm. You can call Kidde toll free at (877) 524-2086 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s Website at www.Kiddecanada.com. Information can also be obtained on the Office of the Fire Marshal’s website at, www.ofm.gov.on.ca.
“A working smoke alarm is our front line defense against tragedy”, states Harry Olivieri, Chief of Prevention and Education. “If you have one of these alarms in your home, protect yourself and loved ones and replace it immediately”
