
UPDATE – Charges Laid in Georgetown Carjacking/Police Pursuit
Detectives have now concluded their investigation into this incident. A 20 year old male, of Georgetown is facing the following charges:
The accused is currently in the custody of Huron OPP, awaiting disposition on other charges. Once proceedings are concluded in Huron County, the accused will be transferred to Halton’s jurisdiction.

On Tuesday April 5th, 2011 at approximately 7 pm, a physical altercation occurred between a mother and father and their 20 year old son as they were driving their vehicle in the area of Temple Road and Ewing Street in the Town of Georgetown. The son had pulled a small pocket knife on his father causing superficial lacerations. When the vehicle stopped, the son jumped into the driver’s seat and fled, hitting several occupied vehicles in the process.
Officers from 11 Division and Halton EMS responded to the area and information on the suspect vehicle was broadcasted. The parents were medically assessed and did not require medical attention.
At approximately 7:10 pm, the suspect vehicle became involved in a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Confederation Street and Wildwood Road. The vehicle became inoperable and the suspect confronted a female as she was walking to her own vehicle – a black 2009 Toyota Venza. The suspect grabbed the keys from the female and fled the area at a high rate of speed. A weapon was not used and the female was not injured.
At approximately 7:40 pm, a Halton Police Canine officer located the vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 7 entering the Town of Acton. A brief pursuit was initiated but discontinued in the area of Queen Street and Churchill Road for reasons of public safety. The suspect vehicle was last seen by witnesses northbound on Main Street travelling at a high rate of speed. A second broadcast was sent with special attention to Wellington County OPP as the suspect vehicle may be entering their jurisdiction.
At approximately 8:30 pm, Wellington County OPP advised that their units had engaged in another pursuit of the suspect in the Town of Palmerston. Their pursuit was also discontinued. At approximately 8:55 pm, Halton Police were again contacted by the OPP and advised that they had arrested the suspect in the Town of Wingham and were investigating the suspect’s involvement in further criminal offences.
The suspect is remaining in OPP custody at this time with Halton Regional Police 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau continuing their investigation for the offences of Theft Under $5000, Theft Over $5000 × 2, Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Dangerous Driving, Flight from Peace Officer and Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident.
