Eating healthy became even easier thanks to the release of Health Canada’s Nutrient Value of Some Common Foods booklet. Egg Farmers of Ontario (EFO) and the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency (CEMA) believe consumers will benefit greatly from learning more about the nutritional value of the most commonly eaten foods including eggs.
“This booklet is a great complement to Canada’s Food Guide,” said Harry Pelissero, EFO General Manager. “Research tells us consumers are eager to learn more about healthy eating and the Nutrient Value of Some Common Foods will assist Canadians in making healthy food choices that includes eggs.”
Nearly all the essential nutrients your body needs can be found in an egg. Eggs are a nutrient-dense food, packed with 14 essential nutrients Canadians and their families need to stay healthy and active. One large egg contains 6 grams of high-quality protein and just 70 calories.
“Canada’s Food Guide considers two eggs a serving in the Meat and Alternatives food group,” said Bonnie Cohen, CEMA Marketing and Nutrition Manager. “I encourage consumers who are looking for more information about egg nutrition or egg recipes to visit our website.” www.eggs.ca
