On Saturday April 19th, the 7th annual mobilization of hundreds of individuals and organizations will hit the streets, parks, trails, vacant lots, and rural roads stuffing garbage bags with the accumulated trash revealed by the melting winter snows.
Councillor Jane Fogal, Chair of the Town’s Litter Free Committee, in making the achievement stated: “Everyone is encouraged to think of a particular part of town that is important to them personally. It may be your own road allowance or perhaps a neighbourhood park or ravine. The Town does not have the staff available to clean up all of these areas and we are reliant on volunteers to take an hour or two out of their busy schedules to make a difference we can all appreciate. Families are particularly encouraged to volunteer as everyone regardless of age can make a valuable contribution to the Town.”
Many locations already have leaders who will be on-site with bags and gloves. Please call the Public Works Department to find clean up sites or to register the location you have chosen. Arrangements can also be made for the town to pick up the collected litter. Please separate the debris picked into piles of metal, wood, tires and garbage. Please call Public Works at 905-873-2601 ext. 2610 to arrange your pick up location.
Last year participation was very strong which resulted in tons of extra pick ups for town staff. In an effort to facilitate the clean up, participants are encouraged to bring collected litter to the Town Works Yard on Saturday morning following the clean up.
High School students are reminded that they can use their community clean up hours towards their volunteer requirements if their time can be verified.
Free garbage bags and gloves are available for participants at the R. C. Austin Operations Centre, Acton Arena, Georgetown BIA office, and the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce at 328 Guelph Street.
The Town of Halton Hills would like to thank Tim Horton’s and Superior Glove for once again sponsoring this clean up event.
The Rain Date for Community Clean Up Day is Saturday, April 26th.
