
In October of 2008 the Halton Regional Police Service, Internet Child Exploitation Unit entered into an Internet on-line luring investigation. The investigation involved the use of an undercover Officer who is dedicated to Policing Internet chat rooms.
After a two week investigation, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Richmond Hill by members of the Halton Regional Police Service and York Regional Police Service. A quantity of computer equipment was seized and is currently being forensically analyzed by the Technological Crimes Unit of the Halton Regional Police Service.
A 23 year old Richmond Hill man has been charged with two counts of Internet Luring, one count of Attempt Invitation to Sexual Touching and one count of Attempt Indecent Exposure. The Richmond Hill man was arrested held for a bail hearing on November 05, 2008.
The Halton Regional Police Service I.C.E. Unit works in conjunction with Police Agencies across Ontario in a Provincial Strategy partnership combating Internet child exploitation. This initiative is made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Ministry of the Attorney General.
The Halton Regional Police have no immediate safety concerns for individuals who may have engaged in chats with the Richmond Hill man. Police are however reminding parents, teenagers and young children who use internet chat programs to practice safe Internet usage and to report any unusual or dangerous chats with strangers.
