The Halton Peel Woodlands and Wildlife Stewardship (HPWWS) has announced a planting date for the kick-off of the Urban Forest education project and tree planting event. On Saturday, November 10th, 2007 a community-based initiative to enhance Halton Hills’ environment will take place at Dominion Gardens Park located at the intersection of Guelph Street and Maple Avenue in Georgetown (parking off Maple Avenue or at Christ the King Catholic Secondary School, Guelph Street).
In the first phase of this project an area around the eastern stormwater pond will be planted with trees and shrubs beneficial to wildlife. In addition, an educational sign will be installed offering the public commentary on the importance of urban trees and a suggested planting list.
This project is part of a larger initiative in the park to add more playgrounds, a splash pad, walking trails, garden plots, and additional trees. Located centrally in Georgetown it is anticipated that Dominion Gardens Park will mature into a significant green space for residents to enjoy that will also provide much needed natural habitat in an urban setting.
The HPWWS gratefully acknowledges the support of its community partners:
All members of the public are invited to bring a shovel and lend a hand. Refreshments will be provided. Planting time is 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 10th, 2007.
This project is being implemented and managed by the Halton Peel Woodlands & Wildlife Stewardship Council (HPWWS). The HPWWS is an Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Stewardship Council which is primarily staffed with volunteers and has a mandate to promote good stewardship practices on private and public land.
