
In early June, the Regional Fraud Bureau commenced an investigation in relation to a group of individuals who were responsible for ‘skimming’ automated teller machines (ATM’S).
The group operated within the Greater Toronto Area, but were observed predominantly in Oakville.
These individuals were responsible for $245,000 in losses to debit card customers and financial institutions.
On June 21st, members of the Halton Regional Police Service executed three Criminal Code search warrants on residences in Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto, arrested seven persons and seized the following:
• $110,000 in U.S. and Canadian currency
• instruments used to forge credit cards
• numerous fraudulent credit cards
• three motor vehicles
• related property seized as Proceeds of Crime
