On Friday May 6th, 2011 the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement hosted the 13th annual awards ceremony in Mississauga, Ontario. Officers and law enforcement members from across Ontario gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of women in law enforcement.

Several Halton members were recognized for service of 35, 30 and 25 years and were nominated for other awards in various areas.

Ms. Goldie Cash and Ms. Nancy Kemp – Halton Police Communicators, won the COMMUNITY SERVICE award for as follows:

Since 2007 these women have fund raised and collected donations to put together special care packages that were sent to the Canadian Armed Forces troops in Afghanistan. They enhanced the program and started sending packages and letters for Canada Day. They have received dozens of emails of thanks from the troops. For Christmas 2010, 45 boxes were prepared and shipped via CFB Borden. By making personal sacrifices, providing their own time and energy, a significant number of soldiers have felt the support and appreciation of a grateful and appreciative country.
