Halton Police Remind Residents how to avoid being Victimized this Holiday Season

The Halton Regional Police Service wants to remind residents about some precautionary measures they can take now that the colder weather is upon us and holiday shopping has begun.

The primary cause of vehicle thefts at this time of year is vehicles left idling and unattended. These circumstances represent a crime of opportunity for thieves and in some cases have led to tragic outcomes.

Police encourage residents to check within their own municipality for specific by-laws that govern the idling of vehicles.

Police also warn about leaving vehicle doors unlocked or any items in plain view. Thefts can occur when the necessary precautions such as locking the vehicle and placing items out of site are not taken.

While there are no guarantees against becoming a victim of vehicle theft, or having your vehicle broken into, the Halton Regional Police Service offers the following tips:
