Halton Region has a new investment fund that will provide multi-year, stable funding for community based programs in Halton. The fund will help non-profit and voluntary sector community groups that contribute to the health and quality of life for people living in Halton. Regional Council approved the new funding framework at its meeting on Wednesday, January 21. Interested community groups can apply to the Halton Region Community Investment Fund by submitting a letter of intent for funding starting February 2, 2009.

“There are many organizations doing great work in our community and they provide many valuable services for people living in Halton,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “The Halton Region Investment Fund is important because it will invest in programs that make a positive impact on families in Halton. Our commitment to the non-profit and voluntary sector works towards our Regional goal of making our community safe, healthy, inclusive and liveable.”

“From children to seniors, the non-profit and voluntary sector provides critical services for people who are in need,” said Adelina Urbanski, Commissioner of Social & Community Services. “We have a growing population in Halton and as a result there is more demand for services. The Halton Region Investment Fund will be able to help community groups better respond to these needs.”

The Halton Region Community Investment Fund will provide funding for programs and related operating costs for non-profit and voluntary sector programs that align with Halton Region’s Health and Social Service Strategic Directions. There is a two-step application process for interested applicants. Step one is a letter of intent. Halton Region will begin accepting letters of intent for the fund from February 2, 2009 to March 18, 2009. Only applicants who meet initial screening eligibility criteria will be invited to submit a full application for funding. Interested community groups are encouraged to review Halton Region’s Strategic Plan and the recommendations from the Roundtable on the Non-Profit and Voluntary Sector prior to submitting a letter of intent.
