Halton Region has thrown its hat in the ring to participate in Count Me In! – a province-wide community challenge to conserve energy. The challenge encourages Halton residents to reduce their energy consumption on Friday, August 14 – the sixth anniversary of the blackout that affected communities across Ontario and the north east United States in 2003.
“The Count Me In! initiative is all about challenging each other to make simple, lasting lifestyle changes that will help contribute to a cleaner, healthier Ontario,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “Halton Region is committed to doing what it can to reduce its environmental footprint and make Halton sustainable for generations to come.”
Communities competing in the challenge will be evaluated on two elements, including:
- Highest overall reduction in electricity consumption on Friday, August 14
- Highest per capita participation in the Count Me In! online pledge.
Halton residents looking to participate can sign up and pledge their commitment to conservation through the Count Me In! initiative at www.countmeinontario.ca. Once entered, participants are eligible to win a grand prize of energy efficient appliances.
