On Sunday, October 10, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m., the Fern Lindzon Duo will perform at the Halton Region Museum as part of the fall jazz concert series. Taking place in the Hearth Room, located in the historic Alexander Barn, proceeds from Jazz at the Museum go to the Halton Museum Foundation, an independent fundraising arm that supports the Museum’s capital renovation campaign.

“The Halton Region Museum, located in Kelso Conservation Area, is one of Halton’s greatest treasures, especially at this time of year,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “This Thanksgiving weekend is a great opportunity to enjoy a fabulous musical performance in a unique historic setting.”

Fern Lindzon is a talented pianist and vocalist from Toronto. Her debut jazz recording, Moments Like These; duets with Don Thompson, George Koller & Reg Schwager, showcases her talents as a pianist, vocalist and songwriter. Lindzon won “Vocal Group of the Year” at the 2009 Canadian Folk Music Awards with Sisters of Sheynville.

According to Steve Baker, Halton Museum Foundation Chair and Jazz Series spokesperson, “Fern Lindzon is a talent not to be missed. She is a classy performer, whose musical interests range from jazz to modern klezmer.” Baker added that during Conservation Halton’s Fall into Nature festival, Thanksgiving weekend and the weekend of October 16 and 17, visitors to Kelso can also witness the spectacular landscapes and colours of the Niagara Escarpment.

The Halton Region Museum is located inside Kelso Conservation Area in Milton – the site that was originally settled in 1836 by Scottish immigrants. The Alexander family farmed the 200-acre property through four generations. Today, one of the Museum’s focal points is the Alexander Barn with additional buildings to be opened to the public over the coming year. The upper two floors of the historic building feature exhibits and artifacts that reflect Halton’s natural and cultural heritage. Two unique meeting and reception rooms located in the Barn are available for corporate or social events, group presentations and educational programs.
