Halton Region named one of Canada's Best Employers for New Canadians for third straight year

For the third year in a row, Halton Region has been rated as one of Canada’s Best Employers for new Canadians by Mediacorp Canada Inc, based on their commitment to programs and initiatives that help recent immigrants integrate into Halton’s workforce. The award recognizes employers offering programs to assist new Canadians in making the transition to a new workplace and life in Canada. Halton Region participates in several mentoring programs and internships to help foreign trained professionals gain Canadian experience and develop the skills needed to successfully enter the labour market.

“It is an honour to be awarded this recognition for the third consecutive year,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “By ensuring we provide Halton staff with a safe, challenging and rewarding workplace, we can continue to attract and retain the very best talent available. I’m very proud of this recognition, and I would like to thank all Halton Regional staff for the great work that they do each and every day.”

Halton Region provides career-track, paid internships to internationally-educated jobseekers through the Career Bridge internship program, hosting interns in asset management, strategic communications, human resources, planning, and transportation services areas. Halton Region also participates in placement programs with the Halton Multicultural Council and the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton.

“To meet future labour market needs and maintain a competitive workforce, we do as much as we can to ensure the success of those who come to us through international immigration” said Chair Carr. “Newcomers contribute to our economic, social and cultural development and it is in everyone’s interest to help them settle into a healthy and prosperous life in Halton.”
