Halton Region’s seasonal influenza (flu) immunizations clinics will begin at various local senior centres on October 19 and at community clinics on November 1.

“As always, Halton Region is taking the flu season very seriously,” reported Halton Region Chair Gary Carr. “The flu immunization clinics are ready to go and Health Department staff are working closely with our community partners such as the school boards, hospitals, and municipalities.”

Flu immunization is free and recommended for all those six months of age and older. The H1N1 pandemic flu strain is now one of the three flu strains included in the annual seasonal flu vaccine, so there is only one flu vaccination required.

“Complications from the flu can be quite serious and even life threatening to some people,” stated Dr. Bob Nosal, Halton Region Medical Officer of Health. “The following actions can help prevent flu: get the annual flu vaccination, wash your hands with soap and water or use alcohol based hand rub, cough and sneeze into your sleeve, and stay home when you are sick.”
