Halton Region is seeking input from residents who live in rural Halton Hills about proposed enhancements to their current waste collection services. In 2004, residents in rural Halton Hills provided feedback on their preferences for waste collection which determined the programs in place today.

Halton Region is now asking for residents to have their say once again on whether they support adding the same level of waste collection in rural Halton Hills that is provided in the other rural areas of Halton. This would mean the addition of:

Starting the week of May 9, 2011 all residents living in rural Halton Hills will receive a letter and survey from Halton Region asking for their thoughts on the proposed waste collection enhancements. Residents are being asked to complete the survey and return it to Halton Region in the postage-paid envelope provided by June 10, 2011 to ensure that their feedback is heard.

While additional waste collection service enhancements are proposed, weekly Blue Box and GreenCart collection will continue in rural Halton Hills regardless of the survey outcome.

In addition to the survey, Halton is also holding two public open houses in late May to share information about the proposed waste collection services and to answer any questions from residents.

The open houses will take place on the following dates:

“Public consultation with residents is an important part of municipal decision-making,” said Halton’s Regional Chair, Gary Carr. “By taking part in the Region’s survey and open houses residents not only have the opportunity to have their say but to also inform Regional Council’s decision.”

The information gathered from the survey and open houses will help determine whether the proposed waste collection enhancements are implemented. If approved, the enhanced waste collection services will begin in February 2012.
