Halton Region staff surpass United Way campaign goal by more than 17 percent

The Halton Region Employees’ United Way Committee presented the United Way of Oakville, with a cheque for $158,581.36 – an amount that is 17 percent more than their 2010 campaign goal of $135,000 and $28,000 more than their contributions in 2009. The funds were raised by Halton Region employees, including Halton Regional Police Service, through their 2010 fundraising campaign.

“Halton Regional staff are committed to making Halton a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “This year, staff were especially generous and even exceeded their goal by 17 percent – a fantastic accomplishment.”

In 2010, Halton employees were encouraged to donate to the United Way where they live, meaning that Halton’s donations will benefit each of Halton’s communities within the region and beyond.

Tim Johnston, Board Chair of United Way of Oakville accepted the cheque on behalf of United Way of Oakville and all of its agencies. “I want to thank everyone at Halton Region for choosing to LIVE UNITED this year. Your generosity is truly inspiring,” said Johnston.

“Halton Regional Police Service employees are pleased to join with their fellow Region of Halton employees in supporting the invaluable work of the United Way in our community,” said Chief Gary Crowell. “By working in partnership together, we can and do make a positive difference to the people of Halton.”

Staff members at Halton Region were recognized by the United Way of Oakville at its Community Achievement Celebration in December 2010, where they received the Public Service Division Award for the third year in a row. This award represents excellence in contributions from staff working in public sector organizations, and acknowledges donations from employees, special events and their UW Chair’s dedication and involvement.
