Halton Regional Police Launch another Child Safety Seat Enforcement Program

The Halton Regional Police Service will be commencing another child safety seat enforcement program in the Region of Halton. The campaign is running from October 2nd to October 10th, 2010.

The objective of this program is to promote the safety of our children and to increase the effective use of child safety seats through education and enforcement.
Having children improperly restrained in a car is not only unsafe for your child/children, but it is also a violation under the Highway Traffic Act. The financial penalty for this offence will result in a fine of $110.00 and two demerit points.
Properly installed child safety seats save lives.

Did you know that in Ontario it is legislated that all children up to 8 years old, children weighing less than 80 lbs (36kgs) or children less than 4’9” (145cm) in height, must be secured in a child safety seat? Some exemptions apply with taxis and vehicles transporting for hire. A full list of exemptions can be found on www.haltonpolice.ca

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation revealed that 90% of child safety seats are not properly installed. It has been proven that by using a child safety seat properly can reduce the chances of a child being killed or injured in a crash by 75%.
