The Halton Regional Police Service, in partnership with Canadian Tire, the Salvation Army, the Mandarin restaurant and Halton Honda, has launched the annual Toys for Tots holiday fundraising drive. Toys for Tots spreads holiday joy by providing gifts to less fortunate families living in Halton Region.
The official kick-off event featured remarks by Halton Regional Police Service Deputy Chief Andrew Fletcher and program partners. Hockey players and members of the Minor Oaks Hockey Association in Oakville (MOHA) and the Burlington Lions Optimist Minor Hockey Association (BLOMHA) were present. These two hockey associations collected $30,000.00 in last year’s Toys for Tots campaign and challenge others for 2010.
This year the Toys for Tots Honorary Chairperson, Oakville resident, Kara Lang, a former Olympian and current member of the Canadian Women’s National Soccer Team. Kara and her team mates will be representing Canada at the 2011 Women’s World Cup and arrived at the Toys for Tots kick-off fresh from her team’s recent Championship win at CONCACAF (The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football) in Mexico.
In 2009, the Halton Regional Police Service Toys for Tots program raised a record-breaking $127,900, which was used to spread joy to more than 2,130 local families in need.
Members of the public are invited to make their donation of new, unwrapped toys, Canadian Tire money and/or cash at any Canadian Tire location or police station in Halton Region between Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, December 19.
The Salvation will then identify local families experiencing difficulty and distribute toys purchased and/or collected from each location directly to them.
