Public awareness campaign to feature “Don’t be an enabler. Remove the opportunity.”

The Halton Regional Police Service will kick-off its annual Crime Prevention Week campaign with a strong message to area residents.

Themed “If you can see it, they can steal it.”, the innovative public awareness initiative will aim to educate members of the public about the rise in theft from auto crime and how to prevent it. Last year alone, more than $1-million dollars worth of valuables were stolen from vehicles throughout Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills.

In partnership with Crime Stoppers of Halton, Halton Regional Police Service and GO Transit Officers will be stationed at train terminals region-wide to distribute information postcards to commuters and answer any public safety questions they may have.

A new, prominently displayed poster will reinforce the program’s message.
In all, the Halton Regional Police Service and GO Transit members hope to reach the more than 14,000 area residents who use GO Transit each day.
