The 2010 Toys-for-Tots campaign collected $180,109.00, surpassing the 2009 record setting amount by over $52,000. This translates to the Halton Regional Police Service helping over 3,000 Halton families during the Holidays – 870 more than in 2009.
Many new partners joined the campaign in 2010, realizing that in a troubled economy, we all have to do our best to help our neighbours in our communities.
Of note, many new community partners made very significant cash and toy contributions, notably, Dynamic Connections and St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School in Oakville and Woodbine Entertainment in Milton, in addition to the continued contributions from many other partners such as, the Milton Mall (Bentall Management), all the TD Canada Trust bank branches in Burlington, and Rotherglen School in Oakville. Ongoing partners, the Burlington Lions Optimist Minor Hockey Association and the Minor Oaks Hockey Association in Oakville, together collected a staggering $32,933.00 in toys and cash in their continuing “Fill the Hockey Bag” and “Fill the Net” events held in December.
In 2010, the civilian and uniform members of the Halton Regional Police Service contributed even more of their volunteer time as well as personal funds to help the campaign. The volunteers collected over $44,400 in cash and toys at seven Canadian Tire locations, as well as collecting over $9000.00 in cash and toys from a number of police member initiatives, one of which involved uniform members from all platoons throughout the Halton Region competing to win the Police Division Platoon title at each of the four HRPS Divisions.
The Halton Toys-for-Tots program has produced many meaningful partnerships between the Halton Regional Police Service and other Halton citizens and organizations, all in the interest of helping those in need at a time of year when giving is particularly important. Even with such a successful 2010 campaign, most toys were distributed almost immediately and demand could barely keep up with the generous supply.
Chief Gary Crowell remarked, “I am extremely proud of the citizens of Halton for their generosity, as well as the level of commitment displayed by the members of our police Service towards this worthy initiative.”
We look forward to another successful Halton Toys-for-Tots campaign during the 2011 Holiday Season.
