Get volunteer hours and be a part of organizing a Halton youth-advocacy conference this year. Have a say about things in your community that are important to you: like the environment, urban growth, housing, responsible waste disposal, health and more. The Halton Regional Youth Advisory Committee (HRYAC) is the place for your voice to be heard, and organizers want you to “bring a friend” to the next meeting.
The first meeting for the 2009-2010 school year held on September 23 had a great turnout and included an announcement that the youth on the committee will be organizing a conference (being held on Friday, November 27) to educate youth and give them skills to advocate for issues that are important to them.
“Each year, HRYAC is a strong voice for youth in our community that helps us understand the issues that matter most to them,” said Gary Carr, Halton Regional Chair. “They are an excellent group and I think this committee is a wonderful opportunity for youth to volunteer in a meaningful way. The conference is only one way I know they will make a difference this year.”
All youth ages 13-24 are invited to bring a friend to the next meeting on October 28 and consider joining the committee. HRYAC meets the fourth Wednesday of each month from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Halton Regional Centre at 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville (transportation can be arranged with 24-hours notice).
