Hearthside returns to the Halton Region Museum

On Saturday, November 26, 2011, the popular Hearthside event, an evening of entertainment, great music and superb food, will return to the Halton Region Museum, located in Kelso Conservation Area, Milton. The event is part of the Museum’s ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations and is hosted by The Halton Museum Foundation, the Museum’s independent fundraising arm.
“A leader in heritage stewardship, the Museum is always looking for new ways to reach out to the community,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “With the return of Hearthside, not only will attendees enjoy some of the best talent of this genre, they’ll do so in an unforgettable setting, perfect for jazz.”
The night’s performances include:
- Vickie van Dyke Trio The midday host at WAVE 94.7 (Smooth Jazz – Hamilton), Vickie performs regularly with her jazz trio. Winner of Canadian Smooth Jazz Broadcaster of The Year 2005 (WAVE 94.7), Vickie’s has a smooth jazz style and easy-going manner that has earned her a dedicated following. From bossa nova to standards, pop jazz to smooth groove, Vickie and her trio do it all.
- James Brown Praised for his fluent technique and lyrical tone, James Brown has appeared with many Canadian and International Artists including The Toronto Symphony Orchestra (with Eric Idol), Toronto Philharmonia, and Sound Streams Canada. James is currently on Faculty at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto where he teaches guitar and jazz improvisation.
- Chris Platt Assemblage The Chris Platt Assemblage includes some of the top students at Mohawk College. Based out of Hamilton, the Assemblage has been pushing musical boundaries with original compositions and old standards, recalibrated to produce a unique, modern sound. Assemblage members include Chris Platt on guitar, Mike DeiCont on bass, Carissa Kimbell vocals, Ryan Cassidy on tenor saxophone and Lee Famelos playing percussion.
“We’re pleased to bring the Hearthside event back to the Museum in honour of our 50th anniversary,” said Nancy Field, Manager, Heritage Services. “This will definitely be an event to remember. The experience will begin at 6 p.m. with a scotch tasting by the fireplace in the Loft Room, followed by an elaborate buffet, “Foods of the World,” prepared by Grinning Gourmand in the rustic Hearth Room. Guests will be entertained throughout by our three stellar jazz acts.”
