High Water Safety Bulletin

Conservation Authorities are expecting 30-50mm of rain over the next few days creating the potential for localized flooding. The warm temperatures and rainfall over these days will result in increased runoff to the creeks and cause water levels in streams to rise above normal conditions.
No major issues are forecast at this time, however a close watch on local conditions and close and frequent monitoring of weather related forecasts and advisories is recommended.
Use a weather radio, regular radio, or television to listen for emergency information on a local station.
Once a flood warning has been issued you should:
- Retrieve your Emergency Survival Kit. If you do not have an Emergency Survival Kit you need to prepare one today, in advance of a flooding situation.
- Follow the instructions and advice of local authorities.
- Be alert to the signs of flooding, as a warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.
- If you live in a flood-prone area or believe that you are at risk, evacuate immediately and move to higher ground. Do not worry about personal belongings as they can be replaced – you cannot.
- If you are advised to evacuate, do so immediately following the recommended evacuation routes.
Mayor Rick Bonnette reminds citizens “With Emergency Preparedness Week happening next week, this Safety Bulletin should act as a reminder to be prepared and that hoping for the best is not a plan.”
Conservation Authorities will advise of any changes if significant changes in the forecast occur. This High Water Bulletin will be in effect through to Thursday April 28, 2011.
