In partnership with the MADD Halton Region Chapter, the Halton Regional Police Service is launching an innovative new program within the Towns of Milton and Halton Hills. This program will officially commence February 20th 2009.
In the spirit of MADD’s Campaign 9-1-1 program, our variable message sign and trailer will be deployed at the scenes of impaired driving crashes, impaired arrests and R.I.D.E. programs. The messages will be incident specific, tailored to the circumstances of each crash or arrest location. No personal identifiers will be displayed.
With impaired driving being the number one criminal cause of death in Canada, the Halton Police Service depends heavily on concerned citizens recognizing the signs of impaired driving and reporting those drivers immediately. Our ability to effectively apprehend impaired driving offenders is directly linked to the community support we receive.
Both MADD Halton Region and the Halton Regional Police Service want passing motorists to understand that they are sharing our roads with drunk drivers. The drunk driver is using the same roads that we and our families use. Drivers are encouraged to report impaired drivers immediately by calling 9-1-1. Road safety is the responsibility of all road users.
