Insecure Homes an Invitation to Criminals

For the past four weeks Burlington and Oakville have experienced a number of residential break-ins. The break-ins are believed to be connected, with most occurring during the evening when residents were asleep in their home. In all cases the culprits took advantage of unlocked doors/windows or screened barriers that were easily cut open to gain entry.

Perpetrators stole purses, wallets and jewellery. Car keys were sometimes taken to facilitate the theft of a family car.

Halton Regional Police would like to reiterate simple, but effective, crime prevention steps, such as locking all doors and windows, when residents are away or asleep at night. Screens, in either doors or windows, do not provide adequate security from a break-in.

Anyone with information is asked to please call Halton Regional Police Service – Criminal Investigative Bureau.
