Major Winter Snow Storm Jan 31 2011

With environmental Canada’s most recent forecast for a major winter snow storm commencing on Tuesday and continuing through Wednesday of this week, Mayor Rick Bonnette wanted to remind residents that “staff will do their very best to ensure that the roads are maintained for your safety. Everyone is asked to be patient as it may take some time for the plows to get to all of our local streets”.

Chris Mills, Director of Infrastructure Services would like to share the following information related to the Town’s winter control program:

• Includes over 900 km of roads, 125 km sidewalks, and 23 municipal parking lots.
• Winter control is performed in priority sequence: Regional roads, arterial roads, collector roads and then local roads.
• Heavy snowfall or successive storms extend winter control activities resulting in delays getting to the local roads.
• Town-wide parking prohibition on streets between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. from November 15 to April 15 for night-time snow clearing operations.
• Sidewalk snow clearing starts within 12 hours of the snow event and is completed within 48 hours.
• Resident assistance in clearing snow away from fire hydrants is being requested.
• Do not shovel snow back onto the roadways as per By-Law #90-68.
• Please ensure garbage and blue boxes are kept off the roadways.
