Can you remember someone in your life who always had a kind word and a generous heart?
This is the gift a mentor gives to a child. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton (BBBSH) matches volunteers with children in one-to-one mentoring relationships, a bond that makes a life long impact on the life of a child. That’s why Mayor Bonnette and the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce are extremely proud to support the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake happening at Georgetown Bowl on Sunday, February 24th.
While BBBSH served 600 children last year, we know there are more than 1,400 additional at risk children and youth who could significantly benefit from the mentoring programs provided by the agency. Recently BBBSH, in partnership with the Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Education, opened two new After-School Club tutoring programs in Acton in the McKenzie-Smith Bennett and St. Joseph elementary schools and two new Go Girls! programs in Georgetown in the Stewarttown and St. Brigid elementary schools. Two more Club tutoring programs will open in Georgetown schools next September.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton receives no on-going government funding so it is campaigns like Bowl for Kids’ Sake that ensures the agency can continue to reach out to those children most in need of a mentor.
Everyone can make a difference. Join us with (4) friends, family members and/or co-workers and enter your team in this year’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake, considering sponsoring Mayor Bonnette’s team or if you are a Chamber Member, the chamber team. Just go to the bbbshalton.ca website and click on the Bowl for Kids’ link and sponsor either team. A tax receipt is issued on the spot. They’re lending their support, so please lend yours.
With the Halton Hills community behind Mayor Bonnette’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake Invitational Challenge, the goal is to raise $10,000 for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton school-based programs in Halton Hills. Your participation will help make a life-long difference in the lives of vulnerable children in your neighbourhood.
