Metrolinx, a Crown agency of the Province of Ontario mandated to improve transportation issues in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Areas (GTHA), yesterday announced a revised proposal to expand service for travellers on the Georgetown GO line – a line that is already at capacity – and to build a new line to and from Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Increased GO train service to Halton Hills and a direct line to the airport are positive initiatives needed by commuters and residents in Halton Region. Regional Chair Gary Carr and Metrolinx board member has been providing a strong voice on behalf of Halton residents and he is pleased with the proposal. “Congestion and transportation are significant concerns for Halton residents, both on our roads and on our rail lines. Expanding GO train service on the Georgetown line is being identified as one of the first big initiatives to undertake as part the new Regional Transportation Plan, and that is great news for Halton Hills commuters.”

Metrolinx is asking for public input on the proposal over the next four months. Six public open houses have been organized during the month of February and Chair Carr is encouraging the public to give their feedback. “I want to hear directly from the residents in Halton,” he says. “The proposal will impact how residents get around the Region, the GTHA or get to the airport. I want to know what people think because a plan of this size affects so many individuals and their voice should be heard.” Residents can email Regional Chair Gary Carr directly at gary.carr@halton.ca. For more details on the open houses, visit their website, call 1-866-658-9890, or email info@metrolinx.com.

Metrolinx is a Crown agency of the Province of Ontario, operating within the legislative framework of the Greater Toronto Transportation Authority Act, 2006 and the provincial Growth Plan. For more information on yesterday’s announcement visit their website
