Metrolinx unanimously approves The Big Move, good news for Halton Region

At their November 28th board meeting, Metrolinx unanimously approved their Regional Transportation Plan and Investment Strategy; The Big Move: Transforming Transportation in the GTHA, which will have significant and positive impacts on Halton Residents.

“The Regional Transportation Plan is an important and historic document that establishes some key integrated transportation projects for the coming years,” stated Metrolinx board member and Halton Regional Chair, Gary Carr. “It will become more important as it will impact how we travel and do business within our region and across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area. I am very excited to see the plan be put into action.”

The following is a list of projects and service enhancements that have been included in the Metrolinx Regional Transportation Plan that will benefit Halton residents:

• Express Rail on the GO Lakeshore West—between Hamilton and Union Station –high speed trains with as little as 5 minutes between trains, getting commuters from point A to point B quicker
• All day, two way GO train service between Milton and Union Station, and Georgetown and Union Station
• Rapid Transit on Dundas St running from Burlington, through Oakville, connecting to Kipling subway station
• Transit service to Pearson airport via Highway 403 transitway
• Access to high-speed bus service along Highway 407
• Rail link between Union Station and Pearson airport
