Halton Region has become aware that business operators, particularly restaurants in Halton, have been approached by a company selling what it describes as mandatory water testing and food safety inspections. Halton Region is not associated with this or any such company.
“Halton Region delivers and is committed to providing residents and businesses with safe, high quality drinking water,” said Mitch Zamojc, Commissioner of Public Works & Engineering Services. “Halton Region staff are highly qualified, licensed and dedicated to delivering safe drinking water through Halton-owned and operated state-of-the-art water purification plants.”
The Region’s municipal water supply is closely monitored, and there is no need to conduct further sampling of municipal tap water unless there is an identified plumbing problem in a particular establishment. “Last year, as in years past, tap water in our region met or surpassed the provincial water quality requirements,” said Dr. Bob Nosal, Medical Officer of Health for Halton Region.
Regional staff always carry picture identification and will produce it upon request. If business operators have questions or concerns about their water supply, or food safety, they should contact Halton Region.
“The Health Department’s Public Health Inspectors regularly conduct food safety inspections of food premises,” said Dr. Nosal. “These inspections are mandatory, but there is never any fee associated with the inspection.”
