Prospect Park Splash Pad Groundbreaking

Thinking about summer yet? Well the Town certainly is as they broke ground recently in preparation for a new splash pad to be constructed in Prospect Park (Acton)! Firm of Marshall Finamore Construction Ltd of Guelph was awarded the construction contract and was on site shortly thereafter.

“Council was pleased to support this capital project as it offers great play value for all members of the family,” says Mayor Rick Bonnette. “We need only look at the success of the Town’s other splash pad facilities at Gellert and Dominion Gardens Park!”

According to Regional Councilor Clark Somerville, who was a member of the Strategic Plan Steering Committee, “The people of Acton had expressed the need for a Splash Pad and it was confirmed through the Town’s Recreation and Parks Strategic Action Plan.”

The total project budget is $540,000 with $100,000 to be raised through donations and sponsorships. On this note, the Town is pleased to announce its first contributor to this exciting project being the Geng Family who own and operate Superior Glove in Acton. “Given our deep connection with Acton and long history in town, we were looking at a way that we could give back to the community,” said Tony Geng speaking on behalf of the Geng Family and Superior Glove, “and the notion of contributing to the splash pad program at Prospect Park struck us as being a very special project that would bring families together in this great park setting.”

The amount of the Geng Family contribution has not been finalized at this time and further public announcements will be provided closer to the opening of the facility this summer.

With over thirteen ground water elements the variety of jets will provide play for a range of ages in a fish–themed splash pad. The central elements of a leaping fish and fishing pole will be a fantastic addition to the Prospect Park setting on Fairy Lake.
