Halton Region will hold a special meeting of the Health and Social Services Committee on Tuesday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at Halton Regional Centre, located at 1151 Bronte Road in Oakville, to discuss a report from Regional staff that proposes the Region enter into a short-term agreement with the Department of National Defence (DND) to use some of the homes located at the Oakville Barracks (located on the DND Lands site at Rebecca and Dorval Drives) as temporary housing for Halton families. The special meeting was announced at the October 21 Health and Social Services Committee meeting.

The DND site, which is comprised of 75 houses on 17 acres of land, has been declared as surplus and is currently being prepared for transfer to the Canada Lands Corporation for long-term redevelopment. The Regional report proposes using approximately three homes on a temporary basis.

Members of the public are invited to attend the special meeting. Anyone wishing to speak to members of the committee during the meeting should register as a delegation and contact Kathy Kielt at the Halton Region Clerks Department at 905-825-6000, toll free at 1-866-442-5866, or TTY 905-827-9833.
