Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr is pleased to announce the approval of over $19,000 in funding to help families in Halton experiencing housing difficulties. A grant of $19,853 has been allocated to the Oakville-based Home Suite Hope Shared Living Corporation to support the purchase and renovation of a six-unit apartment building that will provide transitional housing for families in Oakville.
“This grant will play a valuable role in helping to significantly increase the number of units for families in crisis in Oakville,” said Chair Carr. “The funding also represents the Region’s commitment to meeting the priorities of its Comprehensive Housing Strategy, including a goal to create housing that helps families transition back into the community in a way that is integrated within the community.”
Founded in 2004, Home Suite Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating innovative, affordable housing solutions and a network of community supports for people who are homeless or in a housing crisis.
“We thank the Region for this grant,” said Wendy Perkins, Executive Director at Home Suite Hope. “Currently, there are just two, very small transitional housing facilities in Oakville and this money will help us play a strong role in providing housing solutions.”
To date, more than $200,000 has been raised by Home Suite Hope to put towards the purchase and renovation of the six-unit apartment building.
