Halton Regional Council approved the financial and implementation plan for the 2008/2009 Allocation Program which reconfirmed Council’s principle that growth must pay for itself.

The financial and implementation plan, passed unanimously by Regional Council on July 15th, 2009, ensures that there is sufficient financing to deliver the necessary infrastructure including the water, wastewater and roads required to service growth in Halton. The approval allowed for further discussions with the development industry to address financing. The final financial and implementation plan ensures that growth pays for itself, with no burden or financial risk to the taxpayers of Halton.

“Regional Council is adamant that the existing taxpayers will not be paying for development and this plan clearly identifies this,” said Gary Carr, Halton Regional Chair. “I received an overwhelming number of emails, over 2000, from residents on this issue. I would like to thank them all for voicing their support for our plan.”
