
Project “Safe Start” is an annual traffic safety initiative created by the Halton Regional Police Service to remind our driving public of the need to slow down, and be courteous to other drivers and our children, especially in school zones.
“This time of year, we like to remind motorists to exercise extra caution in school zones, and on all our roadways, to help ensure that students walking to and from school can arrive safely,” said Chief Gary Crowell. “Project “Safe Start” has proven to be a very effective way to put traffic safety top of mind again with all motorists.”
This year’s project began in Milton, Georgetown and Acton on Tuesday September 1st and Oakville and Burlington on Tuesday September 8th, 2009. Safe Start concluded on September 18th. The 2009 Project “Safe Start” kick-off resulted in at total of 1493 tickets issued for traffic offences across Halton Region. The following are a breakdown of the results:

This project is an ongoing initiative that will be maintained year round. It is designed to encourage the community to comply with the Province’s legislated driving laws and thus ensure a safer driving and pedestrian environment for all.
