The Halton District School Board, Halton Catholic District School Board and the Halton Regional Police Service, recognize the profound impact and long term effects bullying can have on our youth, their families and friends.

With this in mind, both School Boards and police united to develop a bullying awareness and prevention campaign that was initiated in November 2010.

In February 2011, youth from across the region were challenged to play a major role in the reduction of bullying in their schools and everyday lives. Students were challenged to develop a message to address bullying as part of a friendly school competition using various mediums supported by technical studies, dramatic arts and fine arts.

Each school was responsible for selecting its final submissions which were turned over to a judging panel made up of mainly youth from the community, supported by members of the School Boards and the Halton Regional Police Service.

The top four finalists will be announced at a gala event which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday May 17th, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Volodymyr’s Cultural Centre 1280 Dundas St. W, Oakville.

The members of the media are invited to attend in order to see the important anti-bullying awareness messages that the talented students of Halton Region have produced.
