The McGuinty Liberals gambled away more than $2.3 million of taxpayers’ money on this summer’s Casino Windsor gala opening. After all the bills come in, the event’s final tab could rise as high as the $2.7 million originally budgeted by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission, according to a recent report in the National Post.

“It’s an absolute disgrace,” charged Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott. “At a time when thousands of families across Ontario are struggling with layoffs in the manufacturing sector, the McGuinty government spends $2.3 million on a great big casino party.”

So big was the party that the National Post calls it “probably the most expensive party ever held in the city, possibly in all of Ontario.” Mr. Arnott, who also serves as Progressive Conservative party tourism critic, says it’s another sign of how out-of-touch the McGuinty Liberals have become.

“While the province’s tourism industry is struggling across Ontario, this government has bet all of its chips on a glitzy casino,” said Mr. Arnott.

“The Liberals must answer for their continuing mismanagement of our money,” he added.
