Travelocity Roaming Gnome with Snorkel and Mask

(NC) – Getting yourself in a tizzy about travelling with the family? Take a deep breath and read through these smashingly useful tips from yours truly, the Travelocity Roaming Gnome:

  1. Fly direct whenever possible. It’s rather difficult to get an entire family on another flight should you happen to miss your connection. If you simply must connect, leave oodles of time between flights. This way, you won’t get all panicked and flustered (never a good look for anyone).
  2. You’ll curse the old alarm clock at first, but book your flights for as early as possible and you’ll reduce the odds of being delayed by an inbound flight. You’ll also reduce the odds of the little tikes getting fidgety with boredom.
  3. Consider those barmy baggage fees when you pack, and try to reduce the number of suitcases you check. You may need to leave that extra pair of sneakers behind.
  4. Booking your flight and hotel together can save your family quite a few loonies. Hundreds, really. On Travelocity.ca, you can create the vacation package that suits you best. Hurrah!
  5. Stock up on magazines for you and new play things for the kids. They’ll be entertained, so you can catch up on all that lovely celebrity gossip. (You could bring work instead, but I wouldn’t.)
  6. A rumbling tummy is no fun when you’re flying; bring a few snacks in case you get peckish. (You can take liquids onto the plane if you buy them in the terminal beyond Security. I don’t recommend anything with a little umbrella in it, though.)
  7. Pack anything extra important—medicine, for instance—in your carry-on, in case you’re delayed for longer. (Me, I’d be lost without my beard comb.)
  8. Dodge the pesky airport queues by checking in within 24 hours of your flight, and wear shoes that slip off easily to make security a bit more breezy, too.
