People around the world will be celebrating Earth Day on Tuesday April 22nd with a wide variety of activities. Town of Halton Hills is focusing on our environment with special Earth Week events from April 18th to 26th.
The Fourth Annual Halton Hills 20 Minute Makeover is set for Friday April 18th. This year we hope to build on our past participation levels and have an even greater impact. Businesses and institutions will be sending their employees and students out to scour their grounds or nearby areas to remove unsightly litter.
Schools are again encouraged to participate. Last year 25 schools participated. We hope to be at 100% participation this year. “One of the most important things we can do is involve the students. When they help clean up they see just how bad littering really is” said Mayor Rick Bonnette.
Once again, Town of Halton Hills employees will be participating with all departments being encouraged to select an area to clean up.
“The key is for business owners and managers to take the initiative. It is truly amazing what can happen in 20 minutes when lots of people pitch in. It can be a very rewarding experience and we all benefit in the end” said Chamber of Commerce representative Helen MacCormack.
Free garbage bags and gloves will be available from the R. C. Austin Operations Centre, The Acton Arena, Georgetown BIA office and the Chamber of Commerce office at 328 Guelph St. in Georgetown.
Participating businesses and schools are asked to register with Public Works so that we can acknowledge their efforts by calling 905-873-2601 ext. 2610.
