Town of Halton Hills Employee Awarded Lifesaving Society Centenary Medal

Lifesaving Society

The Lifesaving Society celebrated their 100th Anniversary this year and awarded its Centenary Medal to Town of Halton Hills, Aquatics Supervisor Paula Stevens in recognition of her leadership in the advancement of lifesaving. The Medal commemorates the Society’s 100 years of saving lives in Canada while paying tribute to those who have made or are making significant contributions to the mission of the Society.

Recipients of the Centenary Medal fall into one of two categories: they are individuals whose past leadership and achievements have significantly impacted the shape and culture of the Society as it exists today; or individuals who have demonstrated through their leadership and achievements with the Society to date, the qualities and potential to lead the Society into the future.

The medal features the rescue engraving from the Society’s 1908 Bronze Medallion encircled by the Society’s Latin motto – Whomsoever you see in distress, recognize in him a fellow man.

Paula is an Instructor, Examiner and Instructor Trainer in the Society’s awards programs and hold the Aquatic Safety Inspector certification.

Paula has over 15 years of leadership on a variety of the Society’s committees. She was a member of the Society’s Lifesaving Program CommittPaula obviously likes building things because she volunteers to chair committees with formidable development tasks. From 2000 to 2003, she chaired the Society’s First Aid Services Committee – a huge leadership undertaking during a period of significant revision and updating of the Society’s “WSIB-recognized” first aid award program and the productiof the Society’s Canadian First Aid Manual. From 2003 to 2004, Paula chaired the Swim Program Committee which developed and launched the Lifesaving Society Swim Program.

Today, Paula serves on the Society’s Ontario Board of Directors as Vice President Lifesaving Sport.

For her energetic dedication to the Society’s drowning prevention mission over many years, the Lifesaving Society is honored to present its Centenery Medal to Paula Stevens.
