This summer, if you live in Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton or Oakville, take a short drive into the heart of Kelso Conservation Area, in Milton and step into the past with a tour of the Halton Region Museum. Tour the picturesque historic site and see some of the rarest of the Museum’s 35,000 artifacts, in an unusual “open exhibit” located on the third floor of the historic Alexander Barn. Alternatively, take a guided tour and learn of the interesting ways and innovative life four generations of Alexander’s experienced while leaving a legacy on the 200-acre Museum site.

“This summer, I encourage you to enjoy time with friends and family at the Halton Region Museum,” said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. “You will learn some interesting facts about Halton’s heritage while enjoying the beauty of its natural setting.”

Drop by the Visitor Center, which serves as the information centre for Kelso Conservation Area while also housing an art gallery and quaint gift shop, serving snacks and beverages to suit a variety of tastes. Don’t hesitate to speak to the experienced Museum staff who can provide information about both the Museum and Kelso Conservation Area, as well as provide tours of the Museum and historic buildings. Open daily to Labour Day weekend, tours are available from 12-5 p.m. hourly at fifteen minutes before and after the hour.

While waiting for your tour, take in the HaltonArt Gallery located in the lower level of the Museum’s Visitor Center featuring the acclaimed Burlington artist, Ann Kloppenburg. The collection of watercolors available for sale will be on display until September 7 and the exhibit, named “The Beauty of Halton”, is an impressive collection of watercolours that capture the year-round warmth and colour the region has to offer. If art is not on your agenda, take a walk around the grounds and consider choosing the Hearth Room or Loft Room for your next corporate event or wedding.

The Halton Region Museum is located inside Kelso Conservation Area in Milton – the site that was originally settled in 1836 by Scottish immigrants. The Alexander family farmed the 200-acre property through four generations. Today, one of the Museum’s focal points is the Alexander Barn with additional buildings to be opened to the public over the coming year. The upper two floors of the historic building feature exhibits and artifacts that reflect Halton’s natural and cultural heritage. Two unique meeting and reception rooms located in the Barn are available for corporate or social events, group presentations and educational programs.
