Environmental Excellence Award

Are you a student in Halton Region with big plans to help the environment? Share your Green Idea with The Regional Chair’s Environmental Awards judging panel to win scholarships for post secondary studies or money for your school.

The Regional Chair’s Environmental Awards support Halton’s youth in achieving environmental excellence in their schools, community and future academic studies. The awards also aim to inspire youth by promoting leadership and celebrating local youth environmental initiatives.

“We’re all responsible for preserving the environment and these awards are a great way to encourage innovative thinking from our young leaders,” said Halton’s Regional Chair, Gary Carr. “I wish all of the candidates the best of luck and look forward to reviewing this year’s submissions.”

Sponsored by Bell Canada and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, The Regional Chair’s Environmental Awards are given out in two categories: the Halton Youth Awards for Environmental Excellence and the Halton Youth Awards for Environmental Scholarship. The submission deadline for both categories is March 12, 2010.

The Halton Youth Awards for Environmental Excellence recognize an appreciation for the environment in our youth and raise awareness of local environmental initiatives, giving Halton elementary and secondary students the opportunity to win $500 for the student’s school.

The Halton Youth Awards for Environmental Scholarship support Halton youth who have chosen to pursue post secondary studies that relate to the environment. Award winners in this category will receive a $1000 scholarship.

Complete award entry details, including application forms, can be found at www.halton.ca.

Award winners will recognized at the Regional Chair’s Breakfast on the Environment, held at the Burlington Convention Centre on April 20, 2010. This event will be attended by local students, the business community and will feature Craig Kielburger, founder and chair of Free the Children as the keynote speaker.

Organizations and individuals can show their support for the environmental efforts of Halton’s youth by sponsoring an award, a scholarship or by purchasing a table at the upcoming awards breakfast. Full details on all sponsorship opportunities are available at www.halton.ca/sponsor.
